She was originally from the Texas area and had family there. It is believed she had only been in the Salt Lake area a couple of months prior to vanishing. Patricia was 45 years-old at the time of her disappearance. The body remained unidentified until June of 2012 when DNA testing confirmed her identity as that of Patricia Barrett. The circumstances led to the case being classified as a homicide. The cause of death was unable to be determined but may have been strangulation. Her body was located by a motorist on October 25, 1978. The time of death was estimated to be approximately one month prior to her body being located. The body of a nude female was found wrapped in carpeting in an area of the old Salt Lake Beach, near I-80. This case was originally the found remains of an unidentified person. Patricia Barrett - Date of Incident: October 25, 1978 Acquaintances of Nikole and Joel are encouraged to contact UPD detectives to aid in the investigation into Nikole’s death. He claims that was the last time he ever saw her. Chaudoin stated they had an argument and that he left. Her family had little contact with her after she moved to Salt Lake City in 1998 with her boyfriend, Joel Chaudeoin.The contact stopped all together in 2000. She was from the Washington area, where her family still resides. Nikole, age 20, was the mother to a young daughter at the time of her disappearance and death. In August of 2012 the remains were identified, through DNA comparisons to a family member, as belonging to Nikole Bakoles. The remains came to be known affectionately as “Saltair Sally.” Extensive efforts were made to determine the identity of the remains including isotope analysis, and comparison with DNA and dental records to numerous missing persons across the US. The remains were located in a field off the I-80 frontage road about 1.5 miles east of Saltair, a local concert hall. Several human bones were found along I-80 by duck hunters on October 8, 2000.
